Waverley
Waverley has quietly earned a reputation as one of New Zealand's most authentic links experiences. Built on natural west coast black sand dunes, the course remains true to its origins, with sheep grazing the fairways and the surrounding landscape shaping every hole.
The contours are both subtle and rugged, following the land rather than altering it. Combined with firm playing surfaces and ever-changing coastal breezes, Waverley offers a traditional links experience that rewards imagination, patience and an appreciation for golf in its purest form.
From above, Waverley’s character is immediately clear. The signature 12th, clubhouse and surrounding holes occupy a stark West Coast landscape shaped from windblown black sand. It is rugged, exposed and entirely without pretence.
Tom Thumb” from the approach. The short par-four 12th asks for an accurate drive before its partially obscured green appears, tightly positioned between the dunes. Modest in scale, but remarkably bold in its architecture. Sheep remain part of everyday life here, grazing the fairways and sharing this rugged landscape with those who come to play it.
