Tara Iti
Designed by Tom Doak and opened in 2015, Tara Iti is a private members' club widely regarded as one of the most significant modern links courses in the world.
Expansive coastal dunes provide both scale and simplicity, with the routing placing a clear emphasis on angle and positioning. The correct line from the tee shapes entirely different approaches into the greens.
Firm conditions and minimal intervention allow the land to dictate play. Access is via accompanied member invite only, reinforcing its position as the most sought-after golfing experience in New Zealand.
The par-four sixth presents perhaps the most demanding tee shot on Tara Iti’s front nine. The fairway cascades back towards the tee, while the second shot must find a green surrounded by trouble.
From above, the 12th occupies the northwestern corner and highest point of the course. Beyond the fairway and green complex, the scale of the Mangawhai sandspit comes into view.
Few coastlines are as naturally suited to golf as the dunes between Mangawhai and Te Arai. Tara Iti and the two courses at Te Arai Links form an exceptional concentration of links golf along one remarkable stretch of land. Tara Iti has firmly earned its place among the finest courses built anywhere in the world over the past 75 years.
