Roxburgh
Roxburgh is one of the South Island’s hidden gems, occupying a remarkable piece of Central Otago landscape where schist outcrops, rolling hills and wide river valleys shape the course. The routing follows the natural contours of the land, producing a collection of memorable holes that feel both varied and connected to their surroundings.
Far removed from New Zealand’s more established golfing centres, Roxburgh rewards those willing to venture a little further. It is a course of character rather than polish, where the quality of the land and the authenticity of the experience leave a lasting impression. For many, it represents what Arrowtown once was — discovered rather than promoted.
Established in 1914, Roxburgh Golf Club has been part of the Teviot Valley for more than a century. It remains a community course in the truest sense, locally supported and welcoming to golfers travelling through Central Otago.
Roxburgh’s exposed schist is more than scenery. The course moves between and around these ancient rock formations, using them to shape sightlines, influence the bounce and place a premium on accuracy.
Roxburgh is short by modern standards, but the scorecard gives little away. Natural contours, changing elevation, and exposed rock reward imagination and control over power. It is one of those courses whose quality sits well beyond its profile.
